My Background
I've had the good fortune to call Boulder home since my college days. I have been an elementary school music teacher, a middle school band director, and a high school ESL teacher. I have had a private flute studio for over twenty years. Eight years ago I co-founded Boulder MUSE, a free music education program for under-resourced students. My Approach
There's nothing so wonderful as a child feeling excited and motivated by their accomplishments. Studying a musical instrument enhances development of the intellect, emotional growth, and deepening of one's sense of self. My role is to instruct my students in music reading,
ear training, rhythm, and the importance of practicing. As they develop these skills they find the musicians in themselves and take pride in the music they can create, and in the hard work they put in to achieve it. I believe strongly in individualizing instruction in accordance with each student's needs, strengths and interests.
